PLEX Onsa Onkaku Modifications...

Couldn't find a cheap (cheap = $15) DX Onsa Onkaku, so have to make do with a PLEX one, and since I have an extra Meitou Onsaken, I decided to implant the circuit into the PLEX one... Thought will be easy, but I was wrong...

Prying open the casing is 1 tought nut... Anyway, the bell inside has to be removed, and also removed the plastic tab (circled in dotted red line) that hits the bell...

All the basic materials...

Need to use a SPDT microswitch (circled in red) to replace the original power-on/off switch, and all 3 pins need to be used... the metal strip of microswitch is also removed... the battery holder (circled in yellow) is recycled from a toy phone...

Still have to drill through the lever piece (when pull down will flip up the tuning fork) to let the wires go through... more work are done: soldering, gluing the pieces in place, troubleshooting, painting... etc...

Done!!! Finally...

Notice there are holes drilled to allow speaker's sound to pass through... Added a small plastic piece to act as the switch (actually is just glued to the microswitch as extension to let finger or thumb to press)...

Now my PLEX Onsa Onkaku has sound and light... though the sound is a bit short... and one sound only...

And the Onsa Onkaku can still be folded, then spring open by pulling down a small lever...

Disc Animals can be popped in too, but cannot be spun, as the CD will just hit the "face" and break apart ...
