Modification: Add LED to Candy Toy and Gashapon Gashat (Shakariki Sports, Dangerous Zombie)
Added LEDs to the sound gashats recently purchased: Candy Toy Shakariki Sports and Gashapon Dangerous Zombie... Though their parts are quite different, their similarity is that both are quite hard for the lights to shine properly to show the diagram in a similar way to the DX version... This is mainly due to it's transparent piece is 1 molded piece and the diagram side is coloured (not white)... For Candy Toy Shakariki Sports, I used a green LED to shine the background and a white LED for the front diagram... not very good, as the top part is very white, but the bottom ("bicycle wheels" area) is not lit up "white" enough, making the green-coloured wheels blend in together with the green-lit background (see video below)...
Has to cut away this part to allow white LED light to shine through...
The transparent piece for candy toy version has to be trimmed for space to fit in the LEDs (my position)... Also used a piece of black insulation tape to separate the 2 LEDs' light Edit: While I was re-positioning the LEDs for better lightings, I removed the black insulation tape to allow more fusion of green and white light at the top part (nearer to LEDs)...
For the Gashapon Dangerous Zombie, remember to remove the sticker to reveal the hidden screw when taking apart the gashat...
I used a surface-mount white LED in this gashat... works well...
And also used blu-tack to position the LED better... Oh, also has to cut off some part (of the white part) to allow the LED light to shine through...
Borrowed my nephew's DX Gamer Driver to test out... Yeap, the Gashapon Dangerous Zombie gashat is for him...
You might want to go and check out ur hardware stores for wires, I got mine from the sound recording circuits' components which I don't need and also from some old toys with electronics. As for LED, I use 3/5 mm typical ones, also sometimes use SMD types, but these SMD types needs to solder wires to them... My electronics components are mainly bought off Taobao.com so don't have the details like model no. etc.
"If you install lights where the bottles are it's pretty cool." - I might go and buy a Driver as my little nephew mentioned he will like to have one, but don't feel like modding anything.
"Plus you can hack the driver and maybe make a ultimate bottle where you can use all the forms by the pins on the bottle." - Hahaha, nice concept! I actually thought of doing it for my Driver Driver after seeing someone selling something similar in Taobao.com...
"I'm having some trouble with the gashat modification and wires are all out of their socket and a bunch of stuff. Will you help me?" - Do try to learn the experience from every modifications - for me the experiences are some fun, and many frustrating, but nevertheless something to learn from everytime, even if have to learn by the hard way. From there, I now always believe I should know how to put back first before I dismantle, i.e. plan ahead in mind or draw/write out. All the best in your modifications!
"... solder pads came off ... " - scrape off the top (greenish) layer of the copper path which the solder pad used to connect and use it as a new soldering point. I did had a a bad experience of the Gashapon Mighty Action X gashat where there is no more copper path to scrape off anymore as it goes in into the chip, and had to throw the whole thing away.
"... Wires are all over the place..." - That I can't help, you probably have to understand certain basic electronics to figure out which should go where, or as I mentioned before, document somehow before dismantling so that you know where to put back.
the led light is keep turning on when I attach it to the + - soldering point, and no response if I move one of it to the speaker solder point. anything wrong I were doing?
"the led light is keep turning on when I attach it to the + - soldering point" -of course my dear, as attaching a LED / bulb direct to a power source ( + - is the voltage ) is definitely going to light up the LED / bulb always...
"no response if I move one of it to the speaker solder point" - You may want to try either : (a) Connect the LED straight to the 2 speakers' solder points. This will cause LED to lit up when there is sound output, but will be dimmer light (b) Connect LED's anode (+) to battery + soldering point and LED's cathode (-) to 1 of the speaker point (the one nearer to the battery - soldering point). This will cause the LED to light up bright but stay on until either of the 2 smaller activating switches ("Level up!", etc) are pressed (I think, cos long time did not do this already forgotten... )... Polarity of the LED does matter here, so just double check again before soldering. Hope this helps!
Ok so where does the red wire from the LED go to on the gashapon? I can't make it out in the photo
ReplyDeleteShould be to any one of the speaker's terminal pad.

ReplyDeleteNo
Deletequestion do u know how to mod the sound effects in the gashats..both candy and dx?
ReplyDeleteanswer no i don't know how to mod sound effects other than making the volume lower by covering the speakers with tape..both candy and dx are the same.
